“They go by feel, they’re not like us, they don’t have that highly developed prefrontal cortex, their system is designed to feel and it doesn’t mean they’re not intelligent, they’re very intelligent, they go by feel … I wish I could tap into that. I would know a lot more and I would probably navigate the world a lot better if I was able to go more by feel like they do.” [1]
I am not a dog trainer. I know I have said it before and I am saying it again. However, I love the work of Kevin Behan and his model of Natural Dog Training. You can safely say I am a little obsessed with it. Sadly, Kevin is no longer with us, but he has left behind a legacy that is being carried on by many of the students that he mentored and who apprenticed with him for many years each.
Amanda Matoske is one of those students who is carrying on Kevin’s work. This is a fabulous interview she did recently with Doggy Dan, a trainer in New Zealand.
